Rock Band 4 Will Support Older Controllers + thoughts

In an interview with Business Insider, Rock Band 4's project leader Daniel Sussman confirmed that older controllers from past Rock Band and Guitar Hero installments will be supported in the new Rock Band 4.

In contrast, Guitar Hero Live, which also releases this year, will not be compatible with previous instruments in either franchise. This makes sense, considering Guitar Hero Live features a new six-button guitar, which may make Rock Band 4 the more affordable option when it releases this Fall.

It remains a mystery whether the future Guitar Hero Live controller will be compatible with Rock Band 4, but Sussman told Business Insider that he thinks the possibility exists. "Our position is really all about respect for our consumers and for the money that they have spent to get into the game space in the first place," he said. "They spend a fortune on games – on consoles, on hardware – and we're sensitive to that. We play those games too."

Rock Band 4 releases later this year for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Our Opinion

I like this news, I can dust off my Rock Band Drum set with the pro cymbal add-ons. I may still buy a new kit in a bundle but only time will tell for sure, I will have to wait and see what the added benefits would be.

The Guitar Hero Live game is an interesting game, being able to see a live audience react to your failure would be cool for awhile but it will then get dull much like the stock footage that was shown in previous games. What will be the fun aspect of the game is to play in the other mode that will play the music video for that particular song while playing the notes. I have never been a big fan of guitar hero but if there is a cross game support I might buy the game but if not I won't be upset.
