Halo Fan Spent 3.5 Years And $7,000 On Lego Ship

Halo's Pillar of Autumn, a massive UNSC spaceship, has been recreated in Lego form. Fan Lee Jones writes on this Lego fan creation community site that he spent 3.5 years and $7,000 to build the impressive brick ship.

The ship is over six feet long and weighs more than 200 pounds. It's quite an impressive feat overall, though the most impressive part is probably the epic-looking engines, which you can see in the image at left.

More images of Jones' Lego Halo ship are available at the Lego fansite.

Lego does not make official Halo toy sets, though competitor Mega Bloks offers a range of similar toys for children based on the series.

Pac-Man Themed Restaurant In Chicago Opens in 2015

Chicago's 40,000 square foot Pac-Man themed restaurant, Level 257, will open in early 2015, Namco Entertainment has announced. The establishment is located at the Woodfield Mall, occupying a space that previously functioned as a warehouse for department store Sears.

Level 257 is a reference to Pac-Man's infamous killscreen, which pops up during the 256th board. The 180-seat restaurant is referred to as a "high-end" venue featuring bars and lounges with fire pits. There's even a separate sports bar that will stock a selection of craft beers, specialty wines, and cocktails.

It's much more than a restaurant, however. Level 257 will have 16 "boutique retro-styled" bowling lanes, and also offer pinball machines, table tennis, and a variety of arcade and board games. There will even be a Pac-Man retail shop that will presumably sell all manner of items related to the classic gaming series.

Level 257's overall aim is to offer patrons a "fun dining" experience.

"Level 257 seeks to explore Pac-Man's impact upon our society and pop culture, reminding us all of the importance of play in our lives, while facilitating our desire to relive those times when beating the next level was the most important thing in our world," reads a line from the restaurant's description. "All while indulging that which we love now--great food and drink with our friends and family."

To see some images of Level 257's construction effort, and to apply for a job there, head to the restaurant's Facebook page.

BioShock Creator Teases New Game

While we still don't know for sure what the "smaller, more entrepreneurial" project BioShock creator Ken Levine and his team are working on, we now have somewhat of a better idea as to the direction it will take.

In a piece for Medium, Levine wrote about his love for Lord of the Rings game Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, specifically the way in which it offers a flexible narrative. This is at the heart of what Levine wants to do with his current project, which remains unannounced.

"Two years ago, I started thinking about how to build a system to let story be as variable as gameplay and still be awesome in the way story can be awesome," he said. "Could you have characters, conflicts, and dialogue that could end not in 100 states, not in 1,000, but in X to the Y states? Goodbye linear, hello geometric!"

"The goal is to make a flexible narrative that is broadly replayable and strongly adaptive to player choice" -- Levine

"And that's the new big thing that my colleagues and I have been working on at our yet-unnamed new studio. In March, I gave a talk at the Game Developers Conference about some of our ideas. We called it 'Narrative Legos.' The goal is to make a flexible narrative that is broadly replayable and strongly adaptive to player choice."

Levine went on to say that, at one time, he wondered if anyone would care about a game of this nature. Then Shadow of Mordor, with its ambitious Nemesis System, came along.

"Even as we've made huge inroads into our design, even as we work on our prototype, there are days when I wonder: Will it be fun? Is there a there there? Even if there is, will the audience give a sh**?," Levine said. "And then Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor showed up.

New Japanese Godzilla Movie In The Works

A decade after the release of Godzilla: Final Wars, the last Toho-produced Godzilla movie, the Japanese studio is poised to develop an all-new film featuring the King of the Monsters.

According to Variety, the movie will begin production in summer 2015 and hit theaters in 2016. A director and cast have yet to be announced.

Additionally, Toho launched the Godzilla Strategic Conference (Godzi-Con), "a committee of studio executives and directors whose aim is to reboot the Godzilla brand, including the new Godzilla pic," Variety notes.

The success of Gareth Edwards' 2014 Godzilla is said to be the inspiration for Toho's latest effort. That film, which Toho co-distributed with Warner Bros., earned $525 million worldwide and $26 million in Japan.

Meanwhile, Edwards is attached to direct a sequel to his own Godzilla pic, which bows on June 8, 2018. Warners and Legendary will again co-produce.
