Android Users Can Finally Make Cortana Their Default Assistant

There's an update to Cortana for Android that finally lets users do one simple thing: make it the default assistant instead of Google Now.

Microsoft began its private beta for Cortana for Android last month, and while it came with all the features it has on Windows Phone, users couldn't assign it to the the home button shortcut, as the built in Google Now assistant was permanently set to be the primary assistant. According to Microsoft-News, however, Microsoft has since updated Cortana to version 1.0.0.204, giving it the ability to completely replace Google Now.

Cortana for Android is still missing a few features, such as voice activation that'll let users say "Hey Cortana" to initiate it, but Microsoft has said that it will continue to roll out updates "over the coming months" that will add more features and functionality.

Our Opinion

Personally I have never used Cortana nor have I used Android. I have only had iOS and standard phone software. I do know that friends that have Microsoft phones love Cortana. With that I think that with this update many more people can enjoy the benefits of Cortana. However, with Microsoft giving out this function to Android users it is selling part of the reason people switch to Windows phones in the first place. There are still other features that Windows still has over other operating systems. But why let others have what makes you so great?
