MIYAMOTO SHARES HIS THOUGHTS ON CINEMATIC GAMES, NINTENDO'S STRATEGY
While speaking with The Telegraph, Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto expressed his feelings on the idea of making games into guided cinematic experiences.
According to Miyamoto, it's the players, not designers, that need to be the director of their own experiences.
“These younger game creators, they want to be recognized,” he said. “They want to tell stories that will touch people’s hearts. And while I understand that desire,

Starcraft for Wii U 'might' work - Blizzard
Starcraft II lead designer says Wii U's GamePad touch screen provides opportunity to bring RTS to consoles, but admits interface not there yet.
Real-time strategy games like Starcraft require players to manage multiple units simultaneously, and for this reason, among others, the genre has remained mostly tied to PCs, which offer keyboard and mouse controls. But could Blizzard's RTS find a home on the Wii U? Starcraft II lead designer Dustin Browder explained to Kotaku that it "might" work, but ultimately, players would find the PC experience to be optimal.
"If I can control a cursor on the television with my hand on the touchscreen, that might be able to work," he said. "[But] because of the hotkey scenario, it's not like players actually play StarCraft with the mouse only--they play with the mouse and keyboard…We obviously allow new users to play mouse-only and that's really fun, but when you get serious about the game you do move into the mouse and keyboard space."
Elsewhere in the interview, Browder confirmed that Blizzard does not have a team dedicated to exploring the possibility of a console version of Starcraft, but said the company is always looking at new technology for its games. Browder went on to reveal that Sony presented Blizzard a demo of Starcraft II being controlled by the PlayStation Move, but this endeavor was dead on arrival.
"I wanted to kill myself," Browder said of the demo. "I found it very difficult to make it work.
I believe that if I had practiced as much as he had, I would've enjoyed it more…but for us it felt like it was gonna be a lot more effort to still make that work, to still make that really sing."
In 2000, Blizzard shipped Starcraft 64 for the Nintendo 64. It was met by a warm critical reception, but all future series entries have landed only on the PC.
The next installment in the Starcraft II trilogy--Heart of the Swarm--is 99 percent complete, according to Browder. It will follow 2010's Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty and precede the final entry, Legacy of the Void.

Wii U in generation of its own - Sony
The Wii U is in a console generation of its own, according to Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida. Speaking to Eurogamer, the executive said he believes when Nintendo launched the Wii in 2006, it in turn created a parallel console cycle that will continue with the company's new console.
"I always thought PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 are in the same generation, but Wii was not the same," he said. "To me, the industry was growing really fast when those three platforms came up because the focus is so different. The PS3 and the 360 were the closest in terms of high definition and networked services. But Wii carved out a large niche to itself. To me, it was like two generations going at the same time."
Yoshida added, "Wii U is the next generation of Wii. That I understand. To me, it's its own generation."
The Wii U is due out worldwide this holiday season and is Nintendo's first high-definition console. Its CPU will be powered by an IBM multicore processor and its GPU by an AMD Radeon card.

The Tony Hawk franchise will ride again this June. The iconic skateboarder revealed recently via Twitter that Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD will release on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network in June. Previously, the game was expected to arrive sometime this summer.
In development at Robomodo (Tony Hawk Ride, Tony Hawk Shred) Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD will be the first Tony Hawk title distributed exclusively through digital channels. Help Make Zelda LEGOs a Reality!
When we were kids, we had to walk ten feet in the snow to get to school. We also had to play with boring, non-Zelda LEGOs. Okay, so that first part is a lie, but the second part is completely true - and it's tragic, right? But if one man's noble mission proves successful, future generations of Hylians will never have to pretend they're playing with a blockhead version of Link and Zelda like we did. They'll be able to score the real deal instead.

Zelda fan Michael Inglis has started a CUUSOO crusade to get an official The Legend of Zelda LEGO set made. He's already racked up quite a few votes, but if he has any hope of achieving his goal, he's going to need plenty more.

You can check out his LEGO designs here, and while you're there be sure to toss him a vote to support the cause. Sure, the chances of this all panning out is probably slim to none, but you've got to admire the man for at least trying.

Never stop dreaming, fellow gamers. Never.
This needs to happen.
Seriously... this NEEDS to happen!
It wouldn't be Zelda without items.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 hitting 3DS this August
Gamers with a 3DS will have a new portable Mario title to pick up this summer, as Nintendo last night announced New Super Mario Bros. 2 for the 3DS.
Due out in August for Nintendo's newest portable, the new side-scrolling title includes iconic Mushroom Kingdom characters like Mario and Luigi, as well as "all your fave characters" from the Mario franchise.
The game's first image--posted to Nintendo's Facebook and Twitter accounts--shows Mario utilizing the Tanooki Suit power-up to fly over a landscape with a Goomba on the ground and Princess Peach's iconic castle in the background.
Nintendo said New Super Mario Bros. 2 was created "specifically as a pick-up-and-play experience," with players of all skill levels accommodated.
On top of announcing the new side-scrolling Mario game, Nintendo also today revealed that in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Kirby franchise, the company will ship a Kirby Anniversary Collection for the Wii.
Nintendo said the game will contain a "variety" of previously released "fan-favorite" Kirby titles, but did not name any specifically. The Kirby Anniversary Collection will release after New Super Mario Bros. 2, but was not given a specific ship date.

Global Wii U Launch By End of 2012
Faced with intense scrutiny, investor pressure and the first fiscal year losses for his company in over 25 years, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata once again reiterated plans for the future. Notably that includes making sure Wii U is available globally by the 2012 holiday season.
Though we've heard many times Nintendo plans to release the new home console sometime this year, this is the first we've heard Nintendo outright state it plans to bring the system to all major territories (North America, Japan, Europe and Australia) by the holidays.
In remarks to reporters, Iwata also emphasized he plans to restore Nintendo to profitability next fiscal year.

What The 3DS Circle Pad Add-On Shares With History's Silliest Portable Consoles
The 3DS Circle Pad Pro is coming to North America soon, but it seems to have a little too much in common with outrageous handhelds like Lynx and Game Gear.
To catch everyone up to speed, the Circle Pad Pro is an add-on to the 3DS that brings in a second analog circle pad and some extra trigger buttons. It's out in Japan now and will release in the U.S. on February 7 for $19.99. Right now, it's set to work with Resident Evil: Revelations and Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D with more titles on the way. The device requires one AAA battery that is reported to last up to 480 hours of game time. To keep things straight, we'll call this combined system and hardware the 3DS Pro. So now that we're all on the same page, let's look to the past for its inspiration.
